    What is Hotspot in HTML and how to do it?

    I am in the process of designing a website. Some time ago I came across a website with an image that was divided into different hyperlinks on different parts. I have a big jpg on my website with all the products. I want to create different links on different parts of the image. Somebody told me about hotspot. What is it and how to do it?

    Hotspot is the same as mapping in HTML coding. If you are familiar with it, good it not, it is a tag that is used to enable hyperlinking different parts of an image. Hyperlinking the hole image is easy, just put the image in <a href> tag.
    Hotspot uses different parts of image and utilizes them for different links. If you want to follow this way. First open the image in Windows Paint and locate four or five different points of the part of image that make up the boundary of the part to be used as hyperlink.
    Then add the points to the following.
    <img src="planets.gif" width="145" height="126" alt="Planets" usemap="#planetmap">

    <map name="planetmap">
    <area shape="rect" coords="0,0,82,126" href="sun.htm" alt="Sun">
    <area shape="circle" coords="90,58,3" href="mercur.htm" alt="Mercury">
    <area shape="circle" coords="124,58,8" href="venus.htm" alt="Venus">
    This one has three hotspots, you can add as many as you want but do not overlap one hotspot on the other.
