Question What are the major similarities and differences between Unix and Linux?

Linux is a very close relative of Unix and therefore shares in most of it's structure, commands, and policies.

Linux has helped advance Unix because of it being a port of Unix to the common X86 architecture.

Unix is still developed, but has stayed on a more conservative course, specialized os, which might be appropriate in more specialized networking/server environments.

Linux has been much more progressive, trying to bring what was once a strictly cli, networking environment, which was developed for the world's phone system and Internet, onto the average users desktop.

This has been quite a challenging task, but is beginning to see some tremendous results, with features like composting video, outshining other desktop environments such as Windows and Mac Os.
