    How to do subnetting ?

    Hi , i have that network Class C Range : 200.160.10.0 ~ 200.160.10.255 with subnet-mask : 255.255.255.0 /24 , that`s 1 network , but i want to create 5 networks out of that class c network , how can i do that ?

Hi , there are 3 steps to do to get the network subnetted .

    1) Determine number of networks and convert it into binary
    2) Reserve BITS in subnet mask and find the increment
    3) Use increment to find network range

SO the Answer will be like that :

    1) we need 5 networks and 5 in binary is equalt to : 00000101
and we need only 3 bits 101 as after the third bit (1) all will be 0 and we do not need that actually

    2) So we will use only 3 bits and now we will reserve bits
Subnet mask : 255.255.255.0 which also is 11111111.11111111.11111111.00000000
Reserve 3 bits the subnet mask will be 11111111.11111111.11111111.11100000
The subnet mask will be 255.255.255.224 /27
The increment is the lowest 1 bit , in our case the increment will be 32

    3) Network range with increment 32 will be :
    Code:
        200.160.10.0 ~ 200.160.10.31
        200.160.10.32 ~ 200.160.10.63
        200.160.10.64 ~ 200.160.10.95
        200.160.10.96 ~ 200.160.10.127
        200.160.10.128 ~ 200.160.10.159
        200.160.10.160 ~ 200.160.10.191
        200.160.10.192 ~ 200.160.10.223
        200.160.10.224 ~ 200.160.10.254
Then the subnet mask will be 255.255.255.224 /27
