What is difference between Debug and Release?

What is difference between Debug and Release?

Some one has told me that Debug binaries do not run on all the machines. Is it true?

    a. Debug application may/may not run on target machine. Because Debug application requires runtine that is not distributed in all the system.
So you must deploy Release version of your binaries with dependency on target machine.
    b. Debug code usually larger (in size) than Release mode.
    c. No optimization in Debug mode.
    d. Debug code is slower than Release version.
    e. Some compiler has more checks in Debug (like standard or STL library) version than Release version. This is because developer can get issues while Debugging the application.

    Hope this helps.
