    These pre-processors defines are used to suppress some of the functionality that are not used all the times.

    When you define these macros, compiler will not include some of the header files.

    Remember that VC_EXTRALEAN is used only for MFC.

    For WIN32 programs, you can use WIN32_LEAN_AND_MEAN for the same purpose.

    You can use it to reduce the size of the Win32 header files.
